Being Accountable to Yourself
|
Consistency with ourselves and our principles is a large order. Everyone can be a saint or a perfect exponent of virtue part of the time; when the sails are set in spirit , and challenges are at a minimum. It is not the same during stress, temptation, or exhaustion. Then we are pressed to be in harmony with high values. Emerson caught this idea when he said: "It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion; it is easy in your solitude to live after you own; but the great man is he whom in the midst of a crowd, keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude." Truly a person is what he is when he is alone; but it requires inner integrity and sound character to be the high self in moments of conflict out in the mainstream of life. A few good anchors may help prevent us from crashing on the rocks of inconsistency. 1. Know you are the beloved child of God. 2. Ask the inner teacher to guide you. 3. Consider; is this the true me? 4. Would this be my behavior if I were on prime TV? 5. Is this good for all concerned? 6. Would this behavior be positive if practiced by all? If one grounds the ship of self with these anchors and is accountable to their implications the results would be a consistency. We would be the same in all situations and in all conditions. A step for growth: Write one paragraph on how I am a person who lives in 100% integrity with my ideals. Affirm: "I like who I am." Dr. Fred McCoun Namasté Adventure Book Week VIII Day 1 |
